The owner of this house in this picturesque village of Garston wanted an extension that reflected traditional building materials in the area but was also uncompromisingly modern.
A sizeable single storey extension was designed with a large oversailing roof all timber clad when seen from below. This space now contains the primary living areas of the house with generous dining, living and kitchen facilities all flowing freely together and opens onto a covered terrace and beautiful garden beyond via large panel sliding doors.
There are a number of unique features to this project including a large circular ‘hole’ in the terrace roof to admit plenty of daylight from above. Also the main structural supporting element to the roof over the terrace was conceived as a sculptural tree and was constructed from laser cut rusty iron flats.
